Multipolar Radiofrequency
Multipolar RF is electrical energy converted to heat when penetrating the skin and fatty tissue. The RF penetrates the skin layers to a predetermined depth in order to selectively heat the target area. The depth is determined by the distance between the poles on the applicators on the device. In the case of skin rejuvenation and tightening, the skin tissue and the extracellular matrix where the collagen fibers are embedded in the target area. The heat causes immediate contraction of the collagen fibers, and at the same time increases the metabolism of the fibroblasts (the cells which produce collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid), accelerating the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. The contraction of collagen fibers and the regeneration of the collagen and elastin deposits, tighten the skin layers creating smoother, healthier and younger look. In case of body contouring, fat reduction and cellulite treatment, the heat energy is directed deeper into the skin, to the hypodermis (fat layer) and the dermis directly above it, in order to increase the metabolism of the fat cells, increase blood and lymphatic circulation, strengthen and tighten the skin thereby breaking down fatty deposits, improving the appearance of cellulite and sagging skin on the body.
Monopolar Radiofrequency
In Monopolar RF devices, the poles are located quite far apart from each other usually the “inactive pole” (or grounding pad) is placed at the back of the body, while the “active pole” (which is the applicator used on the target area) is used over the target zone. As a result, the current has no other choice but to traverse through all skin layers, through the body to the other pole, and exit there. This means that with Monopolar RF, and depending on some other factors too, we can treat not only the skin surface (epidermis) but also the middle skin layer (dermis – responsible for skin tightening), the deepest skin layer (hypodermis – where our cellulite is formed) and even the subcutaneous fat deposits below the skin. Monopolar RF allows the treatment to go much deeper to the skin.
